Blossoms: A newsletter for the family and friends of Rose Blossom Nursery SchoolNovember and December 2007Dear Parents,Rose Blossom School’s Halloween Party was so much fun! The costumes were fabulous, the food scrumptious, and the games fun. The children sang songs for everyone to enjoy, and we have some wonderful photos to show. If you haven’t seen any photos, there is a photo book on the sign-in counter for you to peruse and enjoy. Thanks to all for a great Halloween! It is a wonderful memory for the children. The Halloween party seemed to help the children understand that they are a group, and that they can accomplish quite a bit as a group. When we returned to school in November, there was a feeling of friendship and cooperation that we have been enjoying ever since. The children are familiar with the routines and schedule of school, and they are moving forward into all areas of learning and growing. Phonics, numbers, writing, art, creativity, singing, playing, you name it, they are enthusiastic and making choices all throughout the day. The students and teachers are also benefiting from the amazing involvement of you, the parents, we thank you for all you do for Rose Blossom School! — Sharon Rose, Director Happy Birthday!November:Jeffrey: 11/05/02Phia: 11/07/04Noah: 11/21/07December:Sophia G: 12/30/02At Rose Blossom School we celebrate the children's birthdays with a "walk around the sun" for the number of years of the birthday, and we sing happy birthday. We also help the birthday boy or girl make a special crown, which he/she can wear all day, and especially for our ceremonial ritual. If the family wants to bring a treat in to contribute to the school celebration, we ask that it not add too much sugar to their diet. Some ideas are sliced fruit, mini quick bread muffins, and even party favors, like small bubble bottles. Thank you! Juliet’s Fall CelebrationWe enjoyed having Juliet Goldstein at Rose Blossom School to celebrate the fall season, and look forward to celebrating winter with her! Monthly ThemesNovember–December Themes:Numbers, Nutrition, Thanksgiving, Holidays Our November themes overlap beautifully, with food fitting in with Thanksgiving celebrations, and we can certainly count pumpkins and turkeys galore! Besides counting and making a number chart, the children also sing number songs and practice writing numbers. This year we are not having a November show. Instead we are taking the time for some food and cooking projects, ie: making butter, popping popcorn, and making pumpkin bread. There will be a holiday performance in December. All families and friends are invited. See calendar below for dates and times. Happy Holidays! We Welcome To Rose Blossom SchoolLizzie (Elizabeth) and her family. Please add Lizzie to your phone lists. Saying Good-bye to SierraSierra is moving to Hawaii! November 28th will be her last day at Rose Blossom School. Lost & FoundLost & Found is in the bottom drawer if the dresser in the bathroom. Also, please check outside cubbies and hooks at the end of the day for the children’s toys and jackets. Thank you! FYIRose Blossom Photo Web Album with Google:There is a link to a google web album for Rose Blossom School on the Rose Blossom website at www.roseblossomschool.org. Also, you can read the calendars and newsletter on the website, if you need a quick reminder about dates. Photos and even mini movies are sometimes posted there, check it out! Playground EquipmentI have ordered two new swing seats and chains for the playground, and am looking for a tire swing, too! The new swing seats are blue, so that should add some color to the yard! The new tile patio floor for the sand area is working well. The children can use sidewalk chalk on it! The Worm DoctorThe Worm Doctor was at Rose Blossom School in October. She brought red worms, and helped us set up our new worm condo. The children help to collect food for the worms by separating out their trash at eating times. CookingCooking is scheduled monthly, the third or fourth week of each month, on Wednesday and Thursday. Cooking class in October was fun. We peeled apples, cut them up, and cooked them down into applesauce. The children even ate it at snack time! Yum! The HolidaysThanksgiving is an opportunity for the children to think about what they are thankful for. And the holiday season in December helps them to learn to give, as well as receive. We are also discussing how they, as children, can give gifts during this holiday season. We will be talking about how people celebrate Christmas and Hanukka. If there are any other holidays or ways that you celebrate at this time of the year, please let us know, so that we can talk about how you celebrate the winter holidays.!
