Blossoms: A newsletter for the family and friends of Rose Blossom Nursery School

September and October 2007

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Rose Blossom School year 2007-2008!

We are happy to see the children enjoying school, making new friends, and learning new things. The children are having fun in the art room, and of course, playing, and are feeling accomplished with their school projects. We are singing new songs, hearing new story books, and familiar ones, too.

You, the parents, are also jumping right in, helping out with every aspect of Rose Blossom School. We really appreciate it!

The Teddy Bear Picnic at the end of September is our first all school event and social. The children will sing songs, and then there is the pot luck picnic with their teddy bears (or other stuffed toy friends). If your schedule allows, please come, and bring your child, even if it is not a usual Rose Blossom school day. See you there!

— Sharon and Kat

Happy Birthday!

September:

Beau: 09/07/04

Madison: 09/29/02

October:

Haley: 10/01/03

Declan: 10/11/03

At Rose Blossom School we celebrate the children's birthdays with a "walk around the sun" for the number of years of the birthday, and we sing happy birthday. We also help the birthday boy or girl make a special crown, which he/she can wear all day, and especially for our ceremonial ritual.

If the family wants to bring a treat to contribute to the school celebration, we ask that it please not add too much sugar to their diet. Some ideas are sliced fruit, mini quick bread muffins, and even party favors, like small bubble bottles. Thank you!

Juliet’s Fall Celebration

Juliet’s Fall Celebration is scheduled for October 9h & 10th at 11:00AM. Juliet comes to Rose Blossom School to celebrate the seasons with the children. She brings music, books, creative drama, movement and natural objects to share with the children. This special class is by sign-up only and costs $6 per class. Children not participating with Juliet will have their regular outside play time that morning.

Monthly Themes

September:

Friendship, Family, I Am Special, Teddy Bears

The children are learning that they have friends at school! We are encouraging them to learn the names of their new friends by singing name songs, playing name games, and calling on the children by name in circle time every day.

“I Am Special” booklets, with their height, weight, photos, and baby photos, birthdates, and phone numbers are a special September activity, as are the small and large self-portraits that the children make.

The family tree is one of our new projects. When we send these home please feel free to fill in the names of additional family members.

The Teddy Bear Picnic is our orientation party, ALL families are invited. See calendar.

October:

Autumn, Leaves, Apples, Halloween

We will paint paper leaves, apples, and pumpkins, carve real pumpkins, and paint some, too. Our Halloween party is a big bash, put it on your calendars!

FYI

Scholastic Book Orders will go out in the middle of each month.

Children’s art and messages from the teachers are in the file folders on the wall.

There will be a photo album with pictures of the children at school. Also, sometimes the printer is set up for parents to print out the photos they want. Photos are $.25 each.

Binders near the sign-in counter contain articles about education and parenting that may be of interest to you. Feel free to Xerox articles to take home.

There is also a binder with evaluation forms of Rose Blossom School. Please feel free to discuss any issues, things that are working, or not working for you at Rose Blossom School, with the teachers.

Noisy Nora’s House for phonics assessments will be completed in October. Ask Sharon anytime you want to see your child’s progress. Thank you!

Karen Grove, known as the Worm Doctor of Santa Cruz County, will come to Rose Blossom School on Tues., Oct. 23rd, to help us set up a redworm compost bin.

We are enjoying the new patio in the sand area! Kudos to Eric Schnittger (alumni parent of Rose Blossom School) for the expert and fast work of his masonry team.

There is one more spot open for parent help on Monday morning 9:00-12:00. This includes a trade for tuition that morning. See Sharon if interested. Thanks!

Tumbling Tutor

Tumbling Tutor (Barry Brooks) meets on Monday and Thursday afternoons, from 1:00-1:45PM. $12 per class. There is a one time registration fee of $25. This is a very popular class. See information on counter near sign-in book.

JumpBunch

JumpBunch is a new exercise class for preschoolers. Natalie Holmes will be showing the children a variety of sports and team skills. $35 fee per month. See poster and brochures on the wall as you come in to school.

Teddy Bear Picnic and Halloween party

The Teddy Bear Picnic and Halloween party are school-wide events. All families, friends and students of Rose Blossom School are invited. Teddy Bears or other stuffed animal friends come to the picnic in Sept., and costumes are worn for Halloween. Both of these parties include potlucks. Look for the sign up sheet on the counter. Thank you for all your help and participation!
