Blossoms: A newsletter for the family and friends of Rose Blossom Nursery School

September and October 2006

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Rose Blossom School year 2006-2007!

The teachers, Brook and Sharon, are happy to see the children enjoying school, making new friends, and learning so many new things. They have been very productive in the art room, and with school projects; they jump right in to the singing and games, and have taken on school activities like champs.

The Teddy Bear Picnic at the end of September is our first all school event and social, and it was a big hit with the kids. They enjoyed singing for all of you, and mostly enjoyed the picnic outside! We hope that you enjoyed it, too. A special thanks to all Rose Blossom families for helping to make the Teddy Bear Picnic such a rousing success!

Juliet’s Fall Celebration

This year's celebration is scheduled for October 17th & 18th at 11:00AM. Juliet comes to Rose Blossom School to celebrate the seasons with the children. She brings music, books, creative drama, movement and natural objects to share with the children. This special class is by sign-up only and costs $6 per class. Children not participating with Juliet will have their regular outside play time that morning. Thank you!

Happy Birthday!

September:

Rylee 09/06/02

Zachary 09/20/01

Truman 09/27/02

Madison 09/29/02

October:

Tennasen 10/22/02

At Rose Blossom School we celebrate the children's birthdays with a "walk around the sun" for the number of years of the birthday, and we sing happy birthday. We also help the birthday boy or girl make a special crown, which he/she can wear all day, and especially for our ceremonial ritual.

If the family wants to bring a treat to contribute to the school celebration, we ask that it please not add too much sugar to their diet. Some ideas are sliced fruit, mini quick bread muffins, and even party favors, like small bubble bottles. Thank you!

Monthly Themes

September Themes:

Friendship, Family, I Am Special, Teddy Bears

The children are learning that they have friends at school! We are encouraging them to learn the names of their new friends by singing name songs, playing name games, and calling on the children by name in circle time every day.

“I Am Special” booklets, with their height, weight, photos, and baby photos, birthdates, and phone numbers were a special September activity, as are the small and large self-portraits that the children made.

The family tree is a new project this year. When we send these home please feel free to add the names of grandparents if need be, or even add more leaves for cousins, uncles, aunts, etc.

October Themes:

Autumn, Leaves, Apples, Halloween

The children are very excited about the new month, and the new season, especially with Halloween coming so soon. We will be painting paper leaves, apples, and pumpkins, carving real pumpkins, and painting some, too. The Halloween party at the end of the month is another school-wide event, with all families and students invited. Costumes encouraged!

Lost & Found

Lost & Found is in the bottom drawer of the dresser in the bathroom. Also, please check outside cubbies and hooks at the end of the day for the children’s toys and jackets. Thank you!

Tumbling Tutor

Tumbling Tutor meets on Monday and Thursday afternoons, from 1:00-1:45PM. $12 per class. See information on counter near sign-in book.

Fun Yoga Starts!

Fun Yoga starts on Tuesday, October 3rd and runs for ten weeks, ending on December 19th. There will be no yoga class on Halloween or Election Day, Oct 31st and Nov 7th.

Classes are $6 per class or $50 for the ten week session.

A yoga mat will be provided for $10, as needed. These are yours to take home at the end of yoga classes. Thank you! Namaste.

Needed!

Sharon’s camcorder has videotape of the Teddy Bear Picnic. Do any of you have expertise in editing video that you could share with us at Rose Blossom so we can make the videos of the shows available to the families?

COOKING

Cooking is scheduled monthly, the third or fourth week of each month, on Wednesday and Thursday. Yum!

FYI

Scholastic Book Orders will go out in the middle of each month.

Children’s art and messages from the teachers are in the file folders on the wall.

Look for the photo album with pictures of the children at school. Also, sometimes the camera and printer are set up for parents to print out photos they want.

Binders near the sign-in counter contain articles about education and parenting that may be of interest to you. Feel free to Xerox articles to take home.

There is also a binder with evaluation forms of Rose Blossom School. Please feel free to discuss any issues, things that are working, or not working for you at Rose Blossom School, with the teachers.

Noisy Nora’s House for September phonics assessments are completed. Ask Sharon anytime you want to see your child’s progress. Thank you!

Karen Grobe, known as the Worm Doctor of Santa Cruz County, will come to Rose Blossom School on Wed, Oct. 11 to help us set up a redworm compost bin.
