Blossoms: A newsletter for the family and friends of Rose Blossom Nursery School

September and October 2005

Dear Parents,

Welcome! To all the families of Rose Blossom School. It is a great pleasure for me to begin another school year, and enjoy getting to know the children and their families while we share an exciting preschool experience.

At Rose Blossom this month we are learning about friendship, and sharing, and how to be together as a community. It is exciting to watch the children learn how to be themselves, and also allow others to be themselves, in the school environment.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or just wanting to know more about the curriculum and what is happening at school. Thank you.

—Sharon Rose, Director

Notes to Parents:

Juliet Goldstein will help usher in the fall season with a special visit to Rose Blossom School. Juliet comes to celebrate the seasons with the children with songs, dance, books, plants, and creative play. She will be at Rose Blossom School on Wed., and Thursday, Oct. 19th and 20th from 11:00am - 11:45am. The cost is $5 per session. Look for the sign up sheet at the counter under the clock.

Sad and Sorry

Augusta and Isabella are moving to Oregon! And won't be with us at Rose Blossom School after October 14th. We will miss them! And also wish them the best in their move, and their new home.

Bill Dove, father of Addy Dove, who is also a Rose Blossom student, will be the new teacher. Teacher Judy will switch to Wednesdays, presenting special art in the mornings.

Cooking

Is scheduled monthly, the third or fourth week of each month, on Wednesday and Thursday. Yum!

Happy Birthday!

September:

Rylee 09/06/02

Madison 09/29/02

October:

Liam 10/02/01

Lauren 10/10/01

At Rose Blossom School we celebrate the children's birthdays with a "walk around the sun" for the number of years of the birthday, and we sing happy birthday. We also help the birthday boy or girl make a special crown, which he/she can wear all day, and especially for our ceremonial ritual.

If the family wants to bring a treat in to contribute to the school celebration, we ask that it not add too much sugar to their diet. Some ideas are sliced fruit, mini quick bread muffins, and even party favors, like small bubble bottles. Thank you!

Monthly Themes

September Themes: Friends/Teddy Bears, All About Me, My Family

In September, we started the students' Teddy Bear booklets, which include their names, birthdays, and their families. They also fill in color balloons, take their height using our giraffe measuring chart, and talk about their addresses and phone numbers. Feelings are also included in thisbooklet, as well as a poem about families, and a place to add the place that
they were born.

The children also created small as well as life-size portraits of themselves, which were displayed both inside the school and outside in the yard during the Teddy Bear Picnic.

Songs about teddy bears and friends, our bodies and how they move, and what we do at school were also part of the Teddy Bear Picnic.

The potluck was a great hit, thank you to all parents who contributed to making the Picnic a very special one for the children, and their special teddy bear and stuffed animal friends.

The children will continue to work with the Teddy Bear Booklets through the first week of October, after which they will be sent home for completion. Thank you!

October Themes: Autumn, Apples, Leaves, Halloween

In October, we will talk, sing and do crafts and art about the change of seasons, harvest time, leaves falling, shortening days, and, of course, Halloween.

Our All-School Halloween party will be on Mon., Oct. 31st. All of the children and their families are invited to attend, wearing costumes if they'd like, for the morning party, 9:00am - 10:30am.

Starting in November, our end of the month performances will take place as part of the children's regular school day, to be scheduled the last Wed. and Thurs. of the month, during their meeting time, which is 10:00AM. Parents and friends are invited, but there is no pot luck party then.

See the calendar in the November newsletter, or posted near the clock at school, for the performance dates.

Fundraiser

Linda Babcock and Kelly Mennie are hosting a Mary Kay fundraiser for Rose Blossom School. Parents will receive a Mary Kay catalog (which is filled with holiday gifts) plus they will hold a one-time event on Saturday, October 8th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Office Star Training Center located at 195 Aviation Way Suite 101 (off of Airport). At the event parents can sample and see the products plus they will have food and prizes. The money raised will be added to the art sale fundraiser we held in the spring, to purchase a monkey bar set for the play yard. Thank you!
