Blossoms: A newsletter for the family and friends of Rose Blossom Nursery SchoolDecember 2004Dear Parents,November seemed to fly by, and now, the winter holidays are upon us. Chanukah comes quickly this year, at the beginning of December, so we will be discussing that holiday first. Then, we will add Christmas, with songs, craft projects, etc. If there is another holiday that is celebrated by families that attend Rose Blossom School, please let the teachers know, and we will be happy and honored to have your holiday represented at school this holiday season. Sharon is taking a Cabrillo College class this semester which is a prerequisite for applying to be a mentor teacher through the Cabrillo College early childhood student teacher program. This program is funded by a state grant, and if selected into the program, student teachers will be assigned to Rose Blossom School for their in classroom experience starting in the Fall of 2005. It will be helpful to have evaluation forms and letters from the parents of Rose Blossom School, as part of this process. Evaluations are always valuable feedback for the teachers, and the form provided may be useful as a guideline. However, free-form letters are also helpful, and Sharon will be needing several parent letters of recommendation to include with her mentor teacher application. Letters of recommendation and evaluation forms are both appreciated. Thank you! —Sharon Rose, Director Happy Birthday!Mia P. — 12/06/99Chase M. — 12/08/99Addy D. — 12/20/00Alena R. — 12/21/99We celebrate the children's birthdays at school with a "walk around the sun" for the number of years of the birthday, and we sing happy birthday. We also help the birthday boy or girl make a birthday crown, which he or she can wear all day, and especially for our ceremonial ritual. If the family wants to bring a treat in to contribute to the school celebration, we ask that it not add too much sugar to their diet. We have noticed some creative ideas, like sliced fruit, mini quick bread muffins, and even party favors, like small bubble bottles. Monthly ThemesWinter Holidays!Rather than a big bash pot luck as we had in September and October, with the Teddy Bear Picnic, and the Halloween Party, respectively, we have switched to our low-key version of our end-of-the month performances. On the last Wednesday and Thursday of each month, we invite family and friends to join us in the sanctuary next door while the children sing some of the songs they have learned that month. November’s songs reflected the themes Nutrition, Numbers, November, and Thanksgiving. In December, we will sing Winter Holiday songs. See calendar for dates and times. We hope to see you there!! Yard WorkThe lattice “window” on the side yard garden gate has come down, and probably needs to be replaced. If there is a carpenter in the house who can help us with this repair, HELP! Thank you. ChangesTwo of our students will be moving during the month of December. Kaya will be going back to Germany, and Hanna is moving to Canada. We will miss them, and their families! Photo Opportunity!Sharon has set up her Canon digital camera and a matching Canon printer at school. At drop off and pick up times, please feel free to browse through the playback feature on the camera. If you see a photo you would like to have in a 4 x 6 postcard size, just push the blue button, and the printer will make it for you on the spot! The cost is $.50 per print. The quality of the photos seems good, and there is a protective coating on the print, to prevent fingerprint smudges. Have fun! PermissionYour permission is needed in order to put photos of your child on the Rose Blossom website, and on a DVD of Rose Blossom School for distribution to interested parents and educators. If you haven’t already signed, the sheet is on the counter under the clock. Thank you! Rose Blossom School Calendar: December 2004
