Blossoms: A newsletter for the family and friends of Rose Blossom Nursery SchoolSeptember 2004Dear Parents,Welcome to the new school year at Rose Blossom School! The children are happy to play with old friends, and meet new friends. We are singing and talking about how to be kind and share with all of our friends at school. For some children, this is the very first time they are away from home, in a school setting. This provides us, the children and teachers, opportunities to show kindness, support and compassion, as we demonstrate how wonderful a place school can be. For other children, there is, already, objection to having to leave when it is the end of their school day, which, for the teachers, is wonderful to see. School is a fun place to be. Sharon will be taking pictures of the children with their Teddy Bears, or other favorite stuffed animal friends. Which one to bring…? We look forward to a wonderful school year. Sharon Rose, Mary Brody Happy Birthday!Benjamin B. 9/19/01Julia V. 9/22/00We celebrate the children's birthdays at school with a "walk around the sun" for the number of years of the birthday, and we sing happy birthday. We also help the birthday boy or girl make a special crown, which he/she can wear all day, and especially for our ceremonial ritual! If the family wants to bring a treat in to contribute to the school celebration, we ask that it not add too much sugar to the children’s diet. Some wonderfully received treats have been sliced fruit, mini quick bread muffins, and even party favors, like small bubble bottles. Sharing CircleSharing Circle is at 11:30 AM, on most days. The children “show and tell”, or just tell, or pass their turn. The teachers then read a story. You will hear the children say, “This is my____, and I like it a lot" Monthly ThemesMe, My Body, Feelings, Friends, Family, & Teddy BearsAt Rose Blossom School, we integrate the monthly themes across the curriculum. For example, this month, we are focusing on making friends, sharing, our bodies and selves, and our families. This includes Teddy Bears, as they can be good friends, too. So, we sing songs, make pictures, talk, play, cook, read books, create arts & crafts, problem solve, make booklets, and play games that include these themes and topics. It all builds together, from day to day, and continues from month to month, and in no time at all, we are learning a good deal at school… This month is our Teddy Bear Picnic, a pot-luck orientation party for all Rose Blossom families. All students and their families are invited to attend on Thursday, September 30th, for our Teddy Bear Picnic, even children who are not enrolled for that day. The picnic is from 9:00-10:30 AM. The children will sing songs, and then, we eat! See you there! Help Needed! To spread another layer of bark in the play yard, remove the fort, move the storage shed to the garden area. Tumbling TutorWe are delighted to have Tumbling Tutor Mr. Strawberry (Barry Brooks) returning for another year of gymnastics and tumbling at Rose Blossom School. Barry brings tumbling mats, bars, parachutes, tunnels, ribbons, balancing bowls, and other gadgets and gizmos for the children to use in tumbling class. Classes begin Sept. 13th and 16th, and will continue on Mondays and Thursdays, unless there is a holiday or other event in the way of class. Tumbling sessions are from 1:00-1:40 PM, and are $10 per session, paid monthly. The very first class with Barry is free, and there is a one-time ten dollar registration fee.
