Blossoms: A newsletter for the family and friends of Rose Blossom Nursery School

March 2004

Dear Parents,

March is here, spring has sprung, and we are excited about it at school! We are also excited to welcome seven new students to Rose Blossom School, and the new friendships that are blossoming with this springtime weather.

Also new to Rose Blossom are dance classes with Ashley, from Starz Dance, on Thursday and Friday afternoons. The children participating in this activity are jazz dancing, hip-hopping, and ballet twirling themselves silly.

Another special event this month, is Juliet's Spring Celebration, coming to us Tuesday and Wednesday morning, right after the first day of spring. She brings music, stories, movement, and fun, all about springtime.

We are sponsoring a Family Reading Program as a fund raiser for Rose Blossom School. March is National Reading Month. Information about the magazine fund raiser, as a way to encourage family reading, will be in your child's cubby.

Happy Springtime!

Sharon Rose, Director

Happy Birthday!

Cassie 3/17/99

At Rose Blossom School, we celebrate the children's birthdays with an earthly walk around the sun, for as many times as their birthday age. They also make a crown, which they wear for the celebration, and sometimes all day! Happy birthday to our March birthday girl!

For Parents:

You may have already noticed a new binder on the sign-in counter. It is full of articles of interest about education and other topics for parents. Feel free to read and copy any of the information. There is some good stuff in there!

Monthly Themes

March Themes: Animals, St. Patrick's Day, Spring

The topic of animals is too much to fit into one month! This month, we have tadpoles at school, and they are growing fast! We are also identifying animals that make good pets, animals that live in the zoo, and animals in the wild.

In April we will look more at baby animals, and in the summer months, will focus on insects, and animals that live in the water.

For St. Patrick's Day, we wore green, decorated cookies with green frosting, danced to an Irish tune, and marched to an Irish song, using instruments. The children heard Irish stories, made crepe paper shamrocks, and green pepper Leprechauns. It was a fun party day.

The children are singing songs about the wind, and are watching their wind socks blow gently in the breeze. Next is pinwheels…

SAVE THE CHILDREN

SAVE THE CHILDREN is a leading international nonprofit relief and development organization working in more than 40 countries worldwide, including the United States. Their mission is to make lasting, positive change in the lives of children in need. In addition to helping improve health, education and economic opportunities, they also mobilize rapid life-support assistance for children caught in the tragedies of natural and man-made disasters.

We have been collecting coins since February, and will add them up and send them out at the end of March. Thank you for helping the children!

New Students of Rose Blossom School

A warm welcome to Cassie Smith, Katie Carole, John Thomas Vinolas, Heavenly Dunsheath-Reyna, Madison and Isabella Seaman, Callum Farber and their families.

All Families:

Please take a new phone list, on the sign-in counter.

Registration forms for summer and fall '04, with calendars to indicate days the children will be attending this summer, will soon be in cubbies.

CIRCUS TIME!

Don, representing the police department, called to ask if I wanted to donate to their programs that help the youth of our county, by purchasing circus tickets. I told him I would pass the opportunity along to you, the families of Rose Blossom School. The tickets bought this way are considerably less expensive than if you would buy them the day of the circus, so it looks like this will help everyone!

3 Ring Gatti Circus, on Sunday, May 2nd, at the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds, 1:00PM and 5:00PM shows. This show has circus animals, elephants included!

Family $30 - This pays for 2 adults and any 4 children.

Adult $9 each

Child $6 each

If you are interested in this offer, let me know, and I can have Don send the tickets to us. Please give me an envelope with your name, the amount, the number of tickets, and for which show.

Open to the Community:

Peacemaking with Heart Language, ongoing sessions, Monday nights.

Please RSVP that you are coming. Session is 6:00p.m.–8:00p.m. at Rose Blossom School. The classes are modeled after Dr. Marshall Rosenberg's work with Nonviolent Communication.

This is a fun and fascinating process, offering ideas and options for dealing with any potentially difficult situations. Donation basis.

New items have been donated to Rose Blossom.

Hanna's brother has donated his duplo/lego table, and Katie and her mother have donated a new Lemonade stand for the yard. Both of these are popular locations at school these days.

Ella Belle's dad has replaced the top of our picnic table with beautiful redwood. Thank you for your generous contributions!
